Pet Sitter Plus integrates with Stripe to let you accept credit card, debit card, and ACH payments from your clients quickly and securely.
This article breaks down exactly what you'll pay to process a payment, depending on where your business is based.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
How the fees work
Every payment you process has two parts to the fee:
1. Stripe's Processing Fee — this goes directly to Stripe, the payment processor, and covers the cost of moving the money.
2. Pet Sitter Plus Platform Fee — a small additional fee that supports the online payment features built into Pet Sitter Plus, such as invoicing, automatic charges, client payment portal and so on.
Add these two together and you get your total cost per transaction. There are no separate monthly or annual charges for using Stripe through Pet Sitter Plus, you only pay when a payment is actually processed.
If you've already negotiated a custom discount rate directly with Stripe, that arrangement will continue to be honoured on top of what's shown below.
The Payment Processing fees for all regions are detailed below:

If a client disputes a card payment with their bank (a "chargeback"), Stripe charges its own dispute fee to cover the cost of handling the case. Pet Sitter Plus does not add anything on top of this, you pay Stripe's standard rate only.
There are two parts to this fee:
Dispute Received Fee — charged automatically as soon as a client's bank raises a dispute, whether you win or lose.
Dispute Countered Fee — only charged if you choose to contest the dispute. It's refunded to you if you win, and kept by Stripe if you lose.
Region | Dispute received fee | Dispute countered fee |
USA | $15.00 USD | $15.00 USD |
Canada | $15.00 CAD | $15.00 CAD |
UK | £20.00 GBP | £20.00 GBP |
Australia | $25.00 AUD | $25.00 AUD |
New Zealand | $25.00 NZD | $25.00 NZD |
UAE | $60.00 AED | $60.00 AED |
A dispute can take 2–3 months to fully resolve. For a closer look at how the dispute process works and how to respond to one, see our separate article on Chargebacks and Disputes.
Frequently asked questions
What Is a Platform Fee?
The Pet Sitter Plus Platform fee is a separate charge which is made in addition to Stripe's own processing credit card processing fee.
Why am I being charged a Platform Fee?
As the security and compliance standards associated with online credit card processing have become ever more stringent, complex and time consuming for platform vendors to meet, the concept of platform fees have become almost universally adopted across the industry to help mitigate the cost of keeping you safe online. Pet Sitter Plus has resisted the adoption of platform fees for a long time, but has decided to introduce them so that it can cover the cost of compliance and, as a byproduct, increase development momentum.
Is the Stripe and Platform fee automatically added?
Yes. If you're using Stripe through Pet Sitter Plus, the rate shown for your region applies automatically — there's nothing you need to set up or change.
Will my clients see a breakdown of these fees?
As with all online credit card transactions, these fees are paid by your business and are never seen by or revealed to your client. Your client will pay the gross amount of any invoice you create in Pet Sitter Plus and, if you choose to use Stripe as a payment processing system, then the credit card transaction fee plus the platform fee is deducted before the net payout is sent to your bank account from Stripe.
What if I have a custom rate with Stripe?
Any discount arrangement you've negotiated directly with Stripe stay in place — the platform fee is simply added on top of your existing Stripe rate rather than the standard rate shown here.
Is there an extra Pet Sitter Plus fee if a client disputes a payment?
No. If a chargeback occurs, you're only charged Stripe's own dispute fee — Pet Sitter Plus doesn't add a platform fee on top of disputes.
Who do I contact with questions about my rate?
